Arrow Rock's Spirit, Shadows & Secrets to offer spooky fun Oct. 30
The village of Arrow Rock hosts its "antastically fun, eerily educational, family-friendly Spirits, Shadows & Secrets event" on Saturday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 9 p.m., according to a news release.
"This isn't a gory or ghoulish sort of event," said Sandy Selby, who is directing the third annual event. "We've set up tours and experiences that mix history with some Halloween fun to create an event that is enjoyable for all ages. You might get a chill up your spine from time to time during the evening, but what we're really doing is telling the story of Arrow Rock in a new way. During the evening, our guests will meet up with the 'spirits' of some of Arrow Rock's most colorful characters, they'll take a nighttime tour of the historic Sappington cemetery and that's just the beginning. We've got venues all over town that Halloween and history lovers are going to enjoy."
This year's Spirits, Shadows & Secrets attractions include the popular Sappington Cemetery tour, "spirit"-led tours of historic buildings, wagon rides through the village, storytelling and s'mores around the campfire, an expanded version of last year's popular haunted river trail, plus special surprises at shops along the Boardwalk and all along Main Street.
This year the event has added a jack-o-lantern contest and all ticket-holders are invited to bring a carved jack-o-lantern to enter in the contest. The winners will take home prizes that include event T-shirts, Lyceum Theatre tickets and great gifts from the local Arrow Rock merchants.
Children will be thrilled with the brand new scavenger hunt that will send them through the village in search of gold coins that can be traded in at the Old Schoolhouse for toys and other prizes. All kids in costume are invited to participate in a costume parade at the Old Schoolhouse at 7:30 p.m.
Ticketholders are free to choose from among the activities offered and can plan their own evening visiting all the attractions or choosing only the ones they find most appealing.
Tickets are on sale now at www.ArrowRockArts.org.
Event-only passes are $10 for adults, $7.50 for children under 12 (children under 2 admitted free) and may be purchased on the day of the event, but advance ticketholders can bypass the payment line and go directly into the event.
Spirits, Shadows & Secrets is the cooperative effort of the Village of Arrow Rock, the Arrow Rock Area Merchants Association, The Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre, the Friends of Arrow Rock, the Arrow Rock State Historic Site, and the Historic Arrow Rock Council.
