Four Owls medal at Clinton meet
CLINTON -- Teammates come and go, but Marshall senior Katie Wells keeps chugging along.
Wells won her sixth straight victory in a cross country meet Saturday at the Clinton Invitational, cutting seven seconds off her second-place time on the course a year ago with a 20:45.
The Lady Owls also saw two other runners win medals, junior Erika Espinoza (24:18) in 13th place and junior Arozo Shahabzada (24:36) 16th. Unfortunately, Marshall's two other varsity regulars were unavailable due to illness and a schedule conflict.
The MHS boys have gone five straight meets without a full varsity line-up, with only two entries at Clinton. Senior Nick Jenkins (19:11) finished 18th to medal and junior Micheal McNelly (22:08) placed 59th. Clinton junior Matt Knott (17:56) won the race.
All three of the Lady Owls' junior varsity runners medaled in a small field, with sophomore Kali Stark (28:18) winning. Sophomore Tyler Whyte (22:51) was ninth and senior Adam Tucker (22:52) 10th among Marshall's JV boys.
The Owls are entering the stretch run of the season, which begins Saturday with the NCMC Championships at Fulton.
