Edith M. Mitts, 81, of Slater, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at her home.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, at Slater City Cemetery, with Rev. Jess Spurgin officiating. Pallbearers will be Lynn Sullivan, Brian Sullivan, Clay Mitts, Clint Mitts, Todd Mitts and John Gumm. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Memorials are suggested to Slater Veterans Memorial Park.
Born May 19, 1929, in Saline County, she was the daughter of the late Sherman T. and Ora Heard Hielderbrand. On Jan. 10, 1954, in Slater, she married Richard L. Mitts, who preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 1999. She was a member of Slater Church of God and the American Legion Auxiliary. She worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Bonner Springs, Kan. for many years until her retirement.
She is survived by one son, Richard Todd Mitts, of Slater; two daughters, Rhonda Lindgren, of Sabetha, Kan., and Sherri Dill, of Gulfport, Miss.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a sister, Betty Sullivan, of rural Slater.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter and a granddaughter.
