Earl L. Washington, 85, of Marshall, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, at Mar-Saline Manor Care Center in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Sept. 30, 2010, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater, with Elder Wellington J. Gorham Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery in Slater. Pallbearers will be Ray Morris, William Shobe, Albert Wright Jr., Wellington J. Gorham Sr. and Larry Moore. Visitation will be from noon until the time of service on Thursday. Memorials are suggested to the Mount Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in Marshall.
Born Oct. 21, 1924, in Slater, he was the son of the late Frank and Dollie Hobbs Washington. He was a member of the Jackson Memorial Freewill Baptist Church in Kansas City for many years before moving his membership to Mount Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in Marshall. He served as an usher and member of the choir at the church and on the usher board of both churches. He was also a member of the General Conference Usher board. He lived in Kansas City for many years until moving to Marshall in 1992. He retired after 21 years of service at Thomas Lipton Tea Company in Kansas City.
He is survived by a niece, Enola Jackmon, of Minneapolis, Minn.; a nephew, Rev. John L. Washington, of Kansas City; and a sister-in-law, Gladys Washington, of Marshall.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Washington and John Washington, and a sister, Bertha Washington.
