Earl Preston Shannon, 96, of Marshall, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at First Christian Church in Marshall, with Rev. Robert Sweeten and Rev. Randy Shannon officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Born Oct. 27, 1913, in Napton, he was the son of the late Elias Preston Shannon and Lillie Minerva Shackelford Shannon. On April 12, 1936, he married Berta Mae Whitlock who preceded him in death on Feb. 6, 1988. He had lived in Saline County most of his life and retired from Yost Chevrolet, formerly McKinney Motors, working for them for many years. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Marshall and was very active in the Marshall Senior Center serving as executive director.
He is survived by one son, Ron Shannon and wife, Andrea, of Cumming, Ga; two step-grandchildren, Tracy Spehr and her husband, Pete, of Cumming, Ga. and Michael Reuter and his wife, Tami, of Seattle, Wash.; 6 step-great-grandchildren, Wesley, Mitchell, Christen, Wyatt, Taylor and Jessica; one brother, Carter Shannon of Napton; one sister, Mabel Harvey of Marshall; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one step-grandson, Bill Quinn.
