Bennie Gilbert Korte, 82, of California, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2010. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, September 8 at 10:30 a.m. at Main Street Baptist Church in California with Rev. Ken Mathes officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in California City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, Sept. 7, from 5-8 p.m. at Bowlin-Cantrell Funeral Home in California. Memorials are suggested to the Ben Korte Memorial Fund, c/o Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S. Oak, California, MO 65018. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California, MO.

Born Oct. 29, 1927, in Overton, he was the son of the late Gilbert A. and Charlotte Helena (Sieckmann) Korte. On May 23, 1951, in Boonville, he married Betty Ann Hazell who also preceded him in death. He was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church in California. He was employed with Hall & Riley Quarries for many years before working on the construction of the first section I-70 and Missouri missile bases. Ben and his brother, Walt Korte then owned several businesses including Korte Ready Mix, which they owned for 19 years, the Lime & Rock Quarry and a sanitation company in California, MO. Ben was in the US Army, serving in Korea. He is survived by one son Jeff Korte with his wife, Ronnie, of California; two daughters, Peggy Flippin with her husband, Gary, of Mt. Vernon and Linda Raithel with her husband, David, of Russellville; two brothers June Korte of Aurora and Roger Korte of Pilot Grove; two sisters, Viola Heislen and Frances Adams of Marshall; grandchildren including Jennifer Flippin-Killough and Bradlee Flippin, Nick and Brandon Raithel, Andrew and Austin Korte, Justin, Jesse and Sarah Hurt; great grandchildren, Sydnee and Stephanee Killough and Rylee Flippin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers, Fletcher "Bus" Korte, Fritz "Boss" Korte, and Walter Korte; and sisters, Hilda McClelland, Helen Cramer, Nadine Green, and Vineda "Sis" Self.
