Thelma B. Hayes, 95, of Marshall, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, at The Living Center in Marshall.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at Fairview Cemetery in Marshall, with William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Memorials may be made to Handy Chapel A.M.E. Church in Marshall. Born May 8, 1915, in Marshall, she was the daughter of the late Cornelius Bell and Omelia Jackson Bell. On February 26, 1942, she married Ralph Hayes who preceded her in death on September 23, 2006. She had lived in Marshall her entire life and was a 1933 graduate of Hubbard High School in Sedalia. She worked in the dietary department at Fitzgibbon Hospital for several years and was a homemaker. She was a member of Handy Chapel A.M.E. Church where she served as church pianist for many years.
Survivors include one son, Eugene Carter of Denver, Colo.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Roberta V. Bell of Marshall; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ollie Cornelius Bell and Robert L. Bell, and four sisters, Rozelia Rigsby, Arzelia Burns, Ethel Napier and Beulah Mae Allen.
