NEW FRANKLIN -- A young New Franklin team which returned only three starters from a year ago showed some pop at the plate Thursday with a 12-2, six-inning non-conference win over Slater.

The Lady Bulldogs banged out 11 hits, five for extra bases, and took advantage of six errors by the visitors to score four unearned runs.

An RBI double by sophomore Betty Goodman tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the third inning, but the Lady Wildcats were unable to keep pace after that -- New Franklin going ahead with two runs in its half of the frame and pulling away with four runs in the fourth.

The game ended on a wild pitch with two outs in the sixth after the first five New Franklin batters had reached on hits, freshman Kalani Pihana smacking a two-run double.

Pihana also had a run-scoring triple while limiting Slater to six hits, including junior Jacqueline Anderson's double to plate a run in the sixth.

Senior Sam Kircher had two hits, including a solo homer to lead off the third, and knocked in three runs for the Lady 'Dogs (1-2).

Senior Ana Jackson and junior Brooke Clemons scored runs for the Lady 'Cats (1-1), who have a week off before Thursday's home game against Sturgeon.
