William H. (Peck) Florence, 81, of Columbia, formerly of Saline County, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010, at his home.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with Rev. Manuel Guyton officiating. Born November 4, 1928, in Slater, he was the son of the late Peck Thornton Florence and Mary Rich Florence. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. On Feb. 10, 1947, he married Evelyn Carson, who preceded him in death on April 28, 1989. He was a farm laborer for many years and worked at Banquet Foods for several years before retiring in 1991. He had lived in Columbia the last 20 years, moving from Saline County.
Survivors include one son, Willie Florence and his wife, Ruth, of rural Nelson; four daughters, Anna Reynolds of Columbia, Ludia Belle Florence of Columbia, Rosie Okoye of Mesquite, Texas and Debbie Florence and her companion, Russell Jackman, of Columbia; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Annie Gertrude Florence and Stella Florence Agwu.
