Ruth Barron Kent, 96, of Lafayette Ind., formerly of Marshall, died at 8:32 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, at Mulberry Health & Retirement Community.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. (CDT) Saturday Aug. 21, 2010, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall, with Fr. Kevin Gormley officiating. Friends may call at St. Mary's Cathedral from 10 a.m until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. (EDT) Friday, Aug. 20, with Fr. Eric Underwood officiating. Memorials may be made to the Altar & Rosary Society at either St. Mary's Cathedral in Lafayette, Ind. or St. Peter Catholic Church in Marshall or to Tippecanoe County Humane Society. Born Oct. 6, 1913, near Marshall in Saline County, she was the daughter of the late George Arthur and Emma Jane Wingfield Barron. She was a graduate of Marshall High School. On April 17, 1948, in Marshall, she married Martin Henry "Duke" Kent, who preceded her in death in 1987. She worked as a legal secretary for Rollings & Johnson law firm, and later worked for the Missouri State School for the handicapped. She and her husband also owned and operated Kent Liquor Store in Marshall. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and St. Peter Altar and Rosary Society in Marshall, and attended St. Mary's Cathedral in Lafayette. She moved to Lafayette to be close to her family and her sister, Mildred Blanche Harrison.
She is survived by two nieces, Vicki J. Royer and her husband Sam, of Lafayette, Ind., and Jane Stubbs of Seattle, Wash.; three nephews, Roger Harrison and his wife, Lupe, of Lafayete, Ind., Joseph Harrison and his wife, Cinda, of Westville, Ind., and George E. Barron and his wife, Claudia, of Oshkosh, Wis.; great-nieces and nephews, Scott Royer and his wife, Evelyn, and their children, Elisa and Samantha; Michelle Nagler and her husband, Oscar, and their daughter, Katherine Marie; Shawn Harrison and his sons, Kenau and Kekoa; Shannon Harrison and children Kalani and Kalea; Sheena Bothroyd and her husband, Joey, and their children, Ikaika and Island; David Stubbs, Chad Harrison and his wife, Vicki, and their daughter, Nevenah; and Kendall Harrison. Ruth also considered the staff and residents at Mulberry Health & Retirement as her family.
In addition to her parents, husband and sister, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Barron and Raymond Barron.
