Woodrow "Woody" Nowak, 96, of Marshall, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at Mar-Saline Manor Care Center in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at Gill Memorial Baptist Church in Marshall, with Rev. Greg Bunn officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Born Apr. 17, 1914, in St. Joseph, he was the son of the late Julius and Lillian Mae Swaby Nowak. On Apr. 19, 1935, he married Lillian Rae Thompson, who preceded him in death Jan. 1, 1985. He had lived in Marshall most of his life and was a member of Gill Memorial Baptist Church for nearly 40 years, where he served as a deacon. He had worked at International Shoe Company, was a manager of Safeway, had been a police officer, owned and operated Nowak's Laundry and worked at WalMart for many years.
Survivors include two daughters, Charlotte A. Wallace of Kansas City and Marcia J. Nowak of Marshall; four grandchildren, Gary L. Kruger, Steven R. Kruger, Kimberley Powell and Kristopher J. Wallace; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Lillian Abigail Kruger; two sons, Ray Nowak and Woodrow W. Nowak Jr.; one brother; one sister; one grandson; and three great-grandchildren.
