Roy W. "Bill" Eddy Sr., 95, of Slater, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at The Living Center in Marshall.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at Slater City Cemetery, with Rev. Chris Weber officiating. Pallbearers will be Shane Eddy, Mike Layton, Jim Wiseman, Seth Langan, Trenton Thompson and Chad Thompson. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Memorials are suggested to Gilliam Baptist Church.
Born June 8, 1915, in Saline County, he was the son of the late Osmond B. and Caroline Harris Eddy. On June 10, 1940, in Fayette, he married Dolly M. Sallee, who preceded him in death Nov. 13, 2008. He was a member and deacon of Gilliam Baptist Church. He had taught Sunday school and was superintendent of the Sunday school program. He was a past member of the Orearville School Board and had served as president of the board of Slater Co-op Association #1. He was an avid fiddle player and competed statewide. He was a retired farmer, farming in the Fish Creek area of Saline County for many years. He also drove a bulk truck for MFA Oil Co. until his retirement.
He is survived by two sons, Roy W. Eddy Jr. of rural Miami and Anthony C. Eddy of Marshall; one daughter, Phyllis G. Thompson of Glasgow; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Max Eddy, Paul Eddy and Lee Eddy; and three sisters, Josephine Bridges, Minnie Thomas and Mary Thomas.
