Boonville-Farmers Livestock Auction: Cattle Auction Report for 06/20/2010

Wednesday, July 21, 2010

Receipts: 1357 Week Ago: 750 Year Ago: 1156

Compared to the last sale three weeks ago, similar sales of feeder steers
over 550 lbs and all weights of heifers sold 4.00 to 6.00 higher with many
instances of 9.00 to 10.00 higher particularly on the heavier cattle. Steers
under 550 lbs traded steady to 2.00 lower with one regular calf buyer absent.
Slaughter cows steady. Things were back to business as usual for this first
auction following the annual summer break at Farmers Livestock, with a few extra
volume buyers making an appearance in addition to most of the usual customers.
Several nice strings of cattle available this week, including a handful of load
lots of yearlings. Extreme heat and humidity has plagued the area for the past
couple of weeks, along with periodic heavy rains, and producers who were ready
to market their cattle took advantage of the slightly cooler early morning and
late evening temperatures to haul their cattle to the local barn. Supply
moderate and demand good. Cows and bulls accounted for 08 percent of the total
offering. The feeder supply consisted of 63 percent steers and 37 percent
heifers; 67 percent of all the feeder cattle weighed over 600 lbs.
