Richard D. Hupp, 78, of Slater, died Monday, July 19, 2010, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Gilliam Baptist Church, with Rev. Chris Weber officiating. Janie Weber, organist, will play "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Burial with military honors will be in Slater City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jim Dobbins, Corey Perrin, Melvin Mullins, Dena Mullins, Austin Owens and Shawn Schell. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Memorials are suggested to Gilliam Baptist Church or American Legion Post 78.
Born July 12, 1932, in Slater, he was the son of the late Roscoe W. and Ethel Iman Hupp. On Feb. 27, 1955, in Slater, he married Charlene Fizer, who survives of the home. He was a member of Giliam Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of American Legion Post 78 and V.F.W. Post 4367, both in Slater. He was a lifelong Slater area farmer.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Patty L. Owens of Slater; two grandchildren, Ashley Owens and Austin Owens, both of Slater; one great-grandson, Ty Cooper Perrin; and one brother, Roscoe Hupp of Slater.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Janet Kay Hupp.
