William Scott Ireland, 90, of Warrensburg, died Sunday, July 11, 2010, at Kansas City Hospice House.

A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg. In accordance with his wishes, his body was donated to the University of Missouri at Columbia, and his ashes will be interred in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. The family suggests memorials to the Missouri Veterans Home, 1300 Veterans Rd., Warrensburg, MO 64039, or to a local VFW.

Born in Benton County, he grew up there and in Saline County. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific, then made his living as a carpenter in Warsaw and later near Theodosia in southern Missouri. He had resided at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg for the past three years.

He is survived by three sisters, Omea Tichenor and Esther Howery, both of Marshall, and Zee Evans of Cumming, Ga., and many nieces and nephews.
