Arthur Armstead Richards, 83, of Sedalia, passed away Sunday evening, July 18, 2010, at Four Seasons Living Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia, with the Rev. Ted Francis officiating. Casket bearers will be Carroll Howard, Merlin Balke, Loye Pannell, Roy Bryson, Ken Walker and Larry Whipple. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors by VFW Post 2591. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the family.
Born Nov. 17, 1926, in West Fall, Kan., he was the son of Phillip and Lizzie Lessenden Richards. On July 27, 1991, he married Dora North, who survives of the home. He formerly owned Osage Thrift Shop and was a dairy farmer. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he was the Sunday school director. He also worked with the Harmony Baptist Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards with friends, and winning people to the Lord. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, earning the rank of Seaman First Class.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Stephanie Hughes and husband, Mick, of Marshall; one step-daughter, Tammy L. Grimsley and husband, Mark, of Stover; one step-son, Kevin R. Fox and wife, Christen, of Chandler, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, Tony Larm, Crystal Cope, Christina Marten, Amanda Soboski, Veronica Poort, Aundria Poort, Ada Huskey and Casey Fox; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Erwin Richards of Windsor.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Cole Richards; and one son, David Richards.
