Dr. William Robert Cole, 85, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 14, 2010, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 19, 2010, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Rev. Elizabeth Ann King, of the United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Smithton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Born June 15, 1925, in Marshall, he was the son of P.J. and Grace Maxwell Cole. On Nov. 17, 1945, in Marshall, he married Ellen Morris, who preceded him in death Oct. 16, 2006. He graduated from University of Missouri-Columbia and Washington University School of Medicine. He practiced medicine for many years. After his retirement, he completed law school at Southern Methodist University. He ran an aviation school, the Sedalia Flying Service, for many years. He was a die-hard Republican and enjoyed flying and golfing. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II, earning the rank of Second Lieutenant. He served as co-pilot of a B-17.
Surviving are one son, Barry Cole and wife, Linda L., of Eskridge, Kan.; four grandchildren, Scott Cole of Sedalia, Sara Cole of St. Charles, Carey Cole of Eskridge and Lindsay Cole of Eskridge; three great-grandchildren, Theron Cole, Hanah Cole and Ethan Cole; a brother, David Cole of Jacksonville, Fla.; and a sister, Martha Bagg of San Francisco, Calif.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Cole.
