Area Independence Day celebrations

Thursday, July 1
--Marshall Habilitation Center -- Summer social, including hamburger or hot dog with chips and drink, 4:30 to 8 p.m., followed by Marshall Municipal Band concert at the Bell Tower Pavilion, 8 p.m., followed by fireworks about 9 p.m.

Sunday, July 4
--Marshall -- Thornhill Neighborhood parade, Thornhill Lane and Lafayette Avenue, 10:30 a.m.
--Sweet Springs -- Annual Fireman's Dinner (chicken barbecue) at city park. 11 a.m. and city fireworks display at Sweet Springs High School, beginning at dusk.
--Arrow Rock -- Annual "Impromptu Parade," 1 p.m., followed by old-fashioned games such as croquet, hoops and sticks, sack races and tug-of-war.
--City of Marshall/Marshall Chamber of Commerce -- Marshall Municipal Band concert at 8 p.m. in the parking lot west of Guthrey Play Area, followed by fireworks in Indian Foothills Park, beginning at dusk.
--Slater -- Sunday, July 4, fireworks at city park, beginning at dusk.
