Florene Delora Heermann, 82, of Sweet Springs, died Friday, June 25, 2010, at I-70 Community Hospital in Sweet Springs.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 28, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sweet Springs, with Rev. Dan Wing officiating. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until time of the service at the church. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs. Pallbearers were Joshua Killion, Austin Hartman, Eric Hartman, Ben Merrick, Joey Merrick, Mike Merrick and Scott Hurd. Honorary pallbearers were Jenna Hartman, Jordyn Killion, Jason Noelker, Cheryl Linhardt and Kathy Groves. The family suggests memorials be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Children's Mercy Hospital in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Sweet Springs. Born Aug. 8, 1927, in Sweet Springs, she was the daughter of the late Friedrich "Fred" Falk and Selma Sylvester Falk. On Apr. 25, 1948, in Sweet Springs, she married Clarence E. Heermann, who preceded her in death March 24, 1986. She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years, a member of the Priscilla Guild, made the baptismal banners and helped make Braille books. She was president of Sweet Springs Garden Club. She had a daycare, taking care of children for more than 30 years, and was a homemaker. She was also a CNA and worked at the Sweet Springs nursing home for several years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by four daughters, Valerie Hurd and husband, Dave, of Sundance, Wyo., Bonnie Killion and husband, John, of rural Houstonia, Judi Hartman and husband, Doug, of Rolla and Marlene Merrick and husband, Danny, of rural Sweet Springs; one brother, Laverne "Bud" Falk and wife, Wanda, of Senatobia, Miss.; one sister, Marilyn Noelker and husband, Rex, of Independence; one brother-in-law, Henry Jansen of Gladstone; one sister-in-law, Loretta Heermann of Emma; seven grandsons, Scott Hurd and wife, Carole, of Henderson, Nev., Joshua Killion and fiancée, Sherry Patton, of rural Houstonia, Austin Hartman of Olathe, Kan., Eric Hartman of Springfield, Ben Merrick and wife, Kelsey, of rural Sweet Springs, Joey Merrick and wife, Tara, of rural Sweet Springs and Mike Merrick and friend, Candace Poser, of rural Sweet Springs; two granddaughters, Jenna Hartman and friend, Nick Cale, of Kansas City and Jordyn Killion and friend, Dwaine Johnson, of Columbia; five great-grandchildren, Mason Hurd, McKenna Meyer, Bryce Merrick, Breanna Merrick and Malaki Merrick; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Myrt Jansen; two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Heermann and Robert Heermann; and twin nieces, Pamela Jane Heermann and Patricia Jean Heermann.
