Ruth E. Nichols
Ruth E. Nichols, 84, of Sedalia, formerly of Concordia, died Thursday, June 17, 2010, at University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 26, 2010, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Concordia. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Grade School in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home. Born Dec. 7, 1925, in Concordia, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Gieseke and Ella Stumpenhaus Gieseke. On June 1, 1949, she married Bill Nichols, who preceded her in death October 26, 1974. She was a graduate of Concordia High School and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was employed in the banking industry for many years and had also worked at Walkenhorst Motor Company for many years. She served on the Concordia City Council, the first female to have served in that position.
Survivors include one daughter, Lorraine Inman and husband, Fred, of Concordia; two sons, Chuck Nichols of Columbia and Steve Nichols of Sedalia; five grandchildren, Ross Inman, Reece Inman, Scott Inman, Jared Nichols and Blake Nichols; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harvey Gieseke of San Clemente, Calif., and Ernest Gieseke Jr. of Blue Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Omar Gieseke, Elmer Gieseke, Norvin Gieseke and Raymond Gieseke; and three sisters, Esther Pragman, Opal Wiebe and Verna Kueck.
