Bernice "Iverne" McKee of Blue Springs, was born on June 1, 1923, passed away unexpectedly at her home the day of June 9, 2010. Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2010, at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 12 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Susan B. Komen Foundation, Wayside Waifs and/or Shriners Children's Burn Unit.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter M. Gibson and Opal L. Duncan Gibson, baby sister, Lillian, of Grand Pass; her husband, James C. McKee; son, Ronald G. McKee; and daughter-in-law, Janice McKee, all from Raytown.
Iverne leaves a large family that already misses her very much. They include her two sons, James M. and Cheryl McKee of Blue Springs; and Dennis A. and Judy McKee of Smithville; grandchildren, Michael McKee, Lisa McMachen, Chad McKee, Ryan McKee, Mark McKee, Jennifer Qureshi and Sarah Sacco; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Erma L. Valenti; and niece, Karla Burnes.
Sidney McMachen, one of the great-granddaughters, at the age of three, called her mom, dad, grandma and grandpa old, but was asked if she thought great-grandma was old. And she said, "No, because she plays with me." That was a good summary of her life. She cared and loved all of her family. She was lovingly called the "Baby Hog" because she always wanted to hold all the babies. Mom's final word to you is, "Know Jesus."
