Leona Stephenson, 81, of Marshall died Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2010, at Marshall Cumberland Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Randy Shannon and William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials may be made to American Lung Association or Community Cancer Center. Born Dec. 9, 1928, in Slater, she was the daughter of the late Alex Yates and Bessie Mayfield Yates. On Oct. 10, 1946, she married Robert "Bob" Stephenson, who preceded her in death Feb. 12, 1988. She had lived in Marshall most of her life and worked at International Shoe Company for over 40 years, until it closed. She was a member of Marshall Cumberland Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years and was also a member of V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary and The Birthday Club.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda Townsend and husband, Terry, of Marshall, Helen Herndon and husband, Roger, of Marshall and Janice Allison and husband, Rodney, of Grain Valley; five grandsons, Terry Townsend and wife, Stacey, of Marshall, Jason Wright and wife, Angela, of Marshall, Justin Wright of Marshall, Brian Allison of Kansas City and Kevin Allison and wife, Stacy, of Blue Springs; seven great-grandchildren, Kellin Townsend and Haidyn Townsend of Marshall, Shelby Wright, Gina Wright and Kayli Wright of Marshall, Braden Wright of Springfield and Morgan Allison of Blue Springs; one sister, Marie Cossey of Kansas City, Kan.; one brother, Raymond Yates of Owensville, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
