George B. Vesser Sr., 78, of rural Nelson died Monday, May 31, 2010, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
Graveside services will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2010, at Nelson Cemetery, with William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Friday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Memorials may be made to American Stroke Association. Born Jan. 17, 1932, in Saline County, he was the son of the late Percy Franklin Vesser Sr. and Valeria Ruth Simmons Vesser. He had lived in Saline County his entire life and was a 1950 graduate of Nelson High School. On Oct. 17, 1958, he married Lois Ann Kirby, who preceded him in death July 1, 1998. He was a farmer and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in Japan.
Survivors include two sons, George Bartlett Vesser Jr. and wife, Janet, of rural Gilliam and Dallas B. Vesser and wife, Christina, of rural Marshall; one daughter, Phoebe Ann Lampe and husband, Steve, of Liberty; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Percy Vesser of rural Nelson and Jon Vesser of the state of Nevada; four sisters, Beth Schulyer of Lee's Summit, Gay Roberts of Sedalia, Cherie Barr of Jefferson City and Mimi Foster of the state of Louisiana; and several nieces and nephews.
