County commission reports sales tax figures

Wednesday, May 12, 2010
Saline County Commissioners reported on sales tax collections at their meeting Wednesday morning, May 12.

In May, $70,221.59 was collected, compared with $77,833.81 in April and $66,196.16 in May 2009. For the year, collections remain up by $2,614.67 at $381,979.77.

In other business, Presiding Commissioner Becky Plattner said the commission has received several complaints already after heavy rains Tuesday, May 11.

"We are doing the best we can as quick as we can," she said.

She added, "The same rain is all over the county," but road workers can't get everywhere at once.

Plattner also said commissioners met with Ann Graff of the Center for Human Services on Tuesday. The organization, which annually receives about $180,000 in tax funds from the county, submitted its required annual report to the commission.

Northern District Commissioner Norvelle "Brownie" Brown and Southern District Commissioner Richard "Dick" Hassler were also present at the meeting.

The commission will meet again Thursday, May 13, at 9 a.m. in the lower level of the courthouse.

Sydney,

Did Plattner have anything more to add about the meeting with Ann Graff of the Center for Human Services? Is the center asking for more money or do they have problems or anything else newsworthy about their report which I expect detailed what they did with their $180K?

Thank you.
