Boonville-Farmers Livestock Auction: Cattle Auction Report for 04/27/2010

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

Receipts: 886 Week Ago: 1033 Year Ago: 786

Compared to last week, feeder steers under 650 lbs sold steady to 3.00
higher, over 650 lbs 7.00 to 10.00 higher on a light supply. Feeder heifers 2.00
to 3.00 higher, 4.00 to 6.00 higher on the 550-650 lb heifers. Slaughter cows
steady to 1.00 higher. A tough trade day at the CME with sharp losses for Live
Cattle as well as most Feeder Cattle contracts, plus some early feedlot trade
reported at .50 to 1.00 lower, did little to slow the bidding at the local barn.
Buyers were aggressive again this week particularly for the small groups of
heavy weight yearlings available, which will become more and more scarce as we
move into late spring. Corn planting is well ahead of average progress, although
most farmers are playing the waiting game again now after heavy weekend rains in
the region. Supply light to moderate and demand moderate to good. Cows and bulls
accounted for 14 percent of the total offering. The feeder supply consisted of
46 percent steers and bulls and 54 percent heifers; 32 percent of all the
feeders weighed over 600 lbs.
