'The Music Man' to be performed at St. Peter Catholic School this week
St. Peter Catholic School will present Meredith Wilson's "The Music Man" in the school gymnasium April 29-30 at 7 p.m., according to a news release. Adult tickets cost $2, student tickets are $1, and admission for children pre-kindergarten age or younger is free.
The musical is the story of Harold Hill, a salesman and self-named band leader, who arrives in the small town of River City, Iowa, on July 4, 1910, to sell the idea of a band, as well as instruments and uniforms, too.
He intends to sell the products, collect his money and then leave the town "high and dry," but instead he has a change of heart after meeting the town residents, especially the librarian, Marian Paroo.
Director Ruth Hartung said the play tells a great story, and is a "family musical classic."
Attendees will hear familiar songs such as "76 Trombones," "Wells Fargo Wagon" and "Shipoopi," along with many others.
Hartung was assisted in play production by Renee Barr and Susie Thompson.
Fourth- through eighth-grade students will perform in the play. The cast is as follows.
