"Generally, when we dismiss a case, it's because the issues that led up to the charges have been satisfactorily resolved, or because there is a lack of evidence," she said. We do not make these decision lightly."
Richie was appointed special prosecutor in the case early this month, after Slater attorney George L. Stafford, the original special prosecutor, became ill before completing a bench trial in the case March 10.
Because the charges were dismissed, Richie said she could not comment further.
A spokesman for Marshall Police Department confirmed Bockstetter is back on staff.
Bockstetter was charged with the assault on a teenage girl after an incident at his home Jan. 31.
