James R. "J.R." Jackson, 87, of Independence died Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2010, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall, with Rev. David L. Duncan officiating. Pallbearers will be Larry Desmond, Richard Wiseman, Brian Jackson, Brent Jackson, Jim Dessent and Tom Dessent. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Memorials are suggested to Kansas City Hospice House.
Born Jan. 13, 1923, in Slater, he was the son of the late James E. and Julia Neff Jackson. On Sept. 10, 1946, in Kansas City, Kan., he married Mary Brown, who survives of the home. He was a member of Blue Ridge Boulevard Christian Church in Independence. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II. He retired from Kansas City Booth Co. in North Kansas City in 1988 as a shop manager. He and his wife enjoyed fishing, bowling, trips in their RV and attending sporting events.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Charles "Chuck" Jackson and wife, Joy, and Arthur J. "Jim" Jackson and wife, Kathy, all of Independence; four grandchildren, Brian, Krista, Brent and Mary Kate; and a brother, Harold L. Jackson and wife, Ellen, of Slater.
