Mohler trial moved to Saline County

Friday, April 9, 2010
The trial of Burrell Edward Mohler Jr., one of six men charged with multiple counts of sex offenses involving children to whom they were related in various ways, has been moved to Saline County following court proceedings Monday, April 5.

The case will stay with 15th Circuit Court Judge Dennis A. Rolf, but the trial will take place at the county courthouse in Marshall. Mohler is in custody at the jail in Lexington and will remain there, according to courthouse officials. He was charged in November 2009 with three counts of class B felony rape, one count of class C felony deviate sexual assault and three counts of class C felony use of a child in a sexual performance.

A trial date has not been set.

One of the men, Roland N. Mohler of Bates City, was formerly a member of the staff of Saline County Ambulance District #3. His trial has been moved to Clay County.

Burrell Edward Mohler Sr., three other sons and a brother are also charged.

Charges contained in reports provided by law enforcement officials are not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting charges must be presented before a jury, whose duty is to determine if the accused is guilty or not guilty of the charges.

I agree completely - I do think people should attend at least one trial, if only to see that it's nothing like what we see on television. Even cases like this one, which has received nationwide attention and coverage, can be surprisingly slow and dull at some points.
