Dera D. Stephens, 99, of Slater died Monday, April 5, 2010, at Big Bend Retreat in Slater.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 8, 2010, at First Baptist Church in Slater, with Rev. David L. Duncan officiating. Bethany Weiker, organist, will accompany Gerald Gerhard as he sings "Whispering Hope" and "How Great Thou Art." Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Huston Noe, Hunter Noe, Aaron McGoldrick, Brandon Stephens, Blake Stephens and Ryan Potter. Honorary pallbearers will be Dallas Kirby, Adam Stephens, Hayden Stephens, Mike Stephens, C.J. Thompson, Joseph Stephens, Makenzie Fessler, Brenan Fessler, Brett Stephens and Blane Stephens. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church or Big Bend Retreat in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.

Born July 28, 1910, in Slater, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Maude Hardin Akeman. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Slater and the Willing Workers Sunday school class.

She is survived by three sons, Robert Stephens of Slater, Donald Stephens of DeSoto, Kan., and L.T. Stephens of Triplett; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, J.I. Akeman of Slater.

She was preceded in death by three grandsons; five sisters, Mildred Akeman, Dorothy Akeman, Thelma DeHaven, Louise Harris and Georgia Wilson; and one brother, Hardin Akeman.
