Big Smith was the first band to perform in the new Martin Community Center in Marshall. The Springfield-based band is slated to return to that venue Thursday, April 8, for a dinner/concert fundraiser sponsored by the Marshall Rotary Club.

Above, the band performs during its September 2008 concert in Marshall.

The band plays a "raucous acoustic music that capture[s] the spirit of their native Ozarks," according to the Big Smith Web site.

Since becoming full-time musicians, the band has opened concerts for Emmylou Harris, Doc Watson, The Avett Brothers and the Del McCoury band.

Tickets for the concert are $20 and include a steak dinner. Rotary Club members are selling tickets, and tickets may be purchased at the door.

Proceeds from the event contribute to Rotary's support of local projects, including the D.A.R.E program, college scholarships, Farmer Appreciation Day and Law Day.
