Thursday, April 1, 2010

Earlene Rosa Griffith Davis, beloved wife, sister, aunt, neighbor and friend, age 97, of Blackwater, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2010, at Davis Funeral Chapel in Boonville. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral chapel prior to the service. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to Blackwater Historical Preservation.

Earlene was born on August 17, 1912, in Saline County near Ridge Prairie, the daughter of Earl Isaac "Bud" and Allie Mae Gash Griffith. She was a 1932 graduate of Blackwater High School. On January 30, 1938, she married H. Curtis Davis and they made their home in Blackwater. He preceded her in death on October 6, 1996.

She lived a long and rewarding life, through decades of change, always following her philosophy that hard work, a positive attitude, and tenacity were key elements in living a full life. She was a steady partner to her husband in their produce store and their farming and cattle operation. Earlene enjoyed housekeeping and kept her house with pride. She enjoyed watching her garden grow and worked diligently growing her garden flowers and produce. Always frugal, she canned with pleasure the extra garden produce.

Family was of central focus to her. Her husband of 58 years, her sisters and brothers, her nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews all enjoyed the benefits of her devotion. Earlene believed in the redemption of Jesus Christ and was a life-long member of the Methodist Church in Blackwater.

She is survived by one sister, Sue Rinne of Arrow Rock; one sister-in-law, Pat Griffith of Nevada; seven nieces, Mary Rinne Stith of Arrow Rock, Carol Rinne Frohoff of Portland, Ore., Kay Widel Rock of Madison, Wisc., Fay Widel Vessell of Blackwater, Kim Griffith Moore of Columbia, Becky Griffith Blake of Mansfield, Texas, and Marlisa Griffith Livesey of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; one nephew, Larry Bagby of Blackwater; and friend and caregiver, Kay Stephens of Blackwater.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Verna Cunningham, Ella Florence Widel, Ruby Lee Kammeyer and Peachie Irene Bagby; two brothers, Isaac Griffith and Bud Junior Griffith; and two nephews, Terry Bagby and Dale Rinne.
