Donald L. Gastineau, 71, of Slater, died Friday, March 26, 2010, at his home.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March, 30, 2010, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall, with Michael Witt officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church in Slater.
Born June 1, 1938, in Caldwell County, he was the son of the late Oscar L. and Maxine Eichler Gastineau. On Feb. 28, 1970, in Carrolton, he married Ruth A. Willis, who preceded him in death Feb. 27, 2007. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Slater. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He worked at Banquet Foods in Carrolton for a number of years before transferring to ConAgra Foods in Marshall. He moved to Slater from Marshall in 1975, and worked at BHA and later GE Energy in Slater as a welder until his retirement.
He is survived by two sons, Brad Gastineau and his companion, Megan, of Marshall, and Cameron Gastineau and his companion, Ann Marie, of Boston, Mass.; a daughter, Pamela Witt and husband, Michael, of Bolivar; seven grandchildren, Joshua Michael Witt, Darcey Leigh Witt, Addison Bailey Witt, Lily Brooke Witt, Connor Patrick Gastineau, Alexis Dianne Gastineau and Brayden Lee Gastineau; two brothers, Billy Dean "Bill" Gastineau and wife, Rosalee, of Simi Valley, Calif. and Steven Mark Gastineau of the state of Washington; and a sister, Elizabeth "Sue" Taylor of Goodyear, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sharla Lynn Gastineau, and two brothers, Clyde Gastineau and Arnold Gastineau.
