Mildred Dierking Butcher, 82, of Concordia, died Sunday, March 21, 2010, at her home in Concordia.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at St. John United Church of Christ in Emma, with Rev. Tim Biesemeyer officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Concordia. Born Dec. 16, 1927, in Sweet Springs, she was the daughter of the late Arthur H. Krause and Dora Stephens Krause. On May 29, 1947, in Sweet Springs, she married Alfreland Dierking, who preceded her in death on July 24, 1967. On May 24, 1972, in Stilwell, Okla., she married James Butcher, who preceded her in death on June 19, 1995. She lived in the Sweet Springs and Concordia area most of her life and was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Emma. At the time of her death, she was the oldest member of the church. From 1963-67, she worked in the cafeteria at Sweet Springs R-VII School. In 1968, she opened the Snack Station in Sweet Springs, which she owned and operated until 1972. After her retirement, she moved to Concordia and worked in the dining room of Good Shepherd Home. She was a charter member of Sweet Springs American Legion Auxiliary and Sweet Springs Business and Professional Women's Organization.
She is survived by one son, Dennis Dierking and wife, Debbie, of Raytown; one daughter, Donna Jackson and husband, John, of Concordia; three grandsons, Josh Dierking and wife, Dodi, T.J. Jackson and wife, Holly, and Gabe Dierking; two granddaughters, Joy Bess and husband, Chris, and Jill Morris and husband, Corey; three great-grandsons, Anson Dierking, Cohen Dierking and Jack Bess; five great-granddaughters, Anna Bess, Brylee Dierking, Brooke Bess, Chloe Jackson and Mia Jackson; two brothers, Arthur Krause Jr. and wife, Wilma, of Independence, Robert Krause and wife, Mary Lou, of Concordia; five sisters, Dorothy Holloman and husband, Larry, of Union City, Calif., Marjorie Finkeldei and husband, Bill, of Marshall, Donna Kay Howard and husband, Walter, of Sweet Springs, Carolyn Luebbert and husband, Albert, of Sweet Springs, and Mary Opfer of Sweet Springs; two sisters-in-law, Geraldine Krause of Sweet Springs and Barbara Krause of Knob Noster; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Jaclyn Dierking; one brother, Maurice Krause; and three sisters, Esther Krause, Hazel Gregory and Edna Nelson.
