George W. Harvey, 95, of Slater, died Friday, March 19, 2010, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Blue Springs.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater, with Rev. David L. Duncan officiating. Bethany Weiker, organist, will play "How Great Thou Art" and "In the Garden." Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ron McCoy, Mike Rogers, John Markovich and Greg Hays. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Big Bend Retreat in Slater.
Born Oct. 5, 1914, in Mexico, he was the son of the late William M. and Addie Hall Harvey. On Sept. 2, 1935, in LaGrange, he married Mary Catherine Hallam, who preceded him in death on Sept. 30, 1986. He was a member of Slater United Methodist Church. He retired from GM&O Railroad, where he had worked as a section foreman and later a lineman with the Western Union division of the railroad. Following his railroad career he worked as the maintence man at Big Bend Retreat.
He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Harper of Oak Grove and Phyllis Neitzert of Slater; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter; four brothers; and five sisters in infancy.
