Alleged assault brings felony charges

Tuesday, March 16, 2010
An arrest warrant with a cash-only bond of $5,000 was issued Friday, March 12, for Lee Thomas King, 27, of Marshall.

King is charged with class C felony domestic assault in the second degree. Marshall police say King assaulted a woman at his residence Thursday, March 11.

According to the incident report, King allegedly tried to strangle the woman, threw her off the porch of the residence and threw her against a wall. The woman was treated for a broken right forearm at Fitzgibbon Hospital following the incident.

King posted bond Monday, March 15, and is scheduled for arraignment Wednesday, April 14, in Associate Court before Judge James T. "Tut" Bellamy.

Charges contained in reports provided by law enforcement officials are not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting charges must be presented before a jury, whose duty is to determine if the accused is guilty or not guilty of the charges.

Oh, I forgot to ask - are you a "professional" blogger? Who pays your salary? That IS the definition of professional - someone paid for services.

glockdiva: No one is attempting to hide anything. We simply do not have the staff to do the kind of investigative reporting which seems to be the only thing that will satisfy you. Apparently you DO have that information, but since you don't work for the newspaper, we can't let you just post whatever you think is the truth. We have to stick to the facts we know and can verify in a reasonable amount of time and we have already done that.

I am SHOCKED that a journalist keeps eliminating the truth of this case from being printed! It's pretty ridiculous that a professional blogger can have more first-hand account than a so-called journalist. I'm not sharing anything that cannot be verified by the x-rays, 9-11 call, or witness accounts. A few phone calls will manifest what story is easily available. If you're going to be a journalist, then share the FACTS and quit hiding them just because you're too lazy to verify them!

takingcharge4life,

I was being completely sarcastic. There was another story where a police officer alledgedly abused his daughter and there tons of comments implying he just restrained her. I never meant for that to sound the way you took it. Very Sorry!

You can keep on flagging the actual facts so they don't appear here anymore but the truth will be told whether you like it or not. Domestic abuse, assault and anything likewise is wrong and you should be ashamed of yourselves!!!

Response by Eric Crump/Editor:
Most of the facts being reported are not easily verified without spending a couple of days consulting court records in several states. The facts may be true, but they *could* also be a list of untrue or misleading accusations intended to unfairly harm someone's reputation. I don't have credible evidence either way, so I deleted the comments. They were not flagged by any other reader.

Out of sheer curiosity, Kathy, did the report mention whether or not Lee King sustained any injuries during this altercation?

Well, it's good that he's not Bob King's son, but whoever his father is, is going to be very saddened by what comes to light in this case. As I said earlier, no one wants to see their child in this light.

Lee King is NOT Bob King's son.

Selmac,

You really should be certain of who you are speaking of before trashing them publicly. And just because someone gets into a fight in high school doesn't mean anything. People do change.

-- Posted by luckymomma on Wed, Mar 17, 2010, at 12:28 PM

Not Bob King's son.

-- Posted by luckymomma on Wed, Mar 17, 2010, at 12:22 PM

Selmac, just to clarify - the prosecutor has already seen the MPD report and made the determination that the facts presented to him justify taking this case to court. That's why the charges were filed and why they're presented here with a person named as the subject of those charges.

It's still true, of course, that King has the opportunity to opt for a trial by judge or by jury, as well as the opportunity to make a plea agreement with the prosecutor.

Collector -

Take heart - if you believe the other posters on this site, even if he is convicted, he'll only get probation, right?

That said, if you have further information regarding this, you should contact the Marshall PD and let them know. Ms. Fairchild only takes her information from the PD incident report.

Oh, and slander is spoken. If this were an actually an untrue story, it would be libelous, not slanderous.

I find it interesting how some people will go to such lengths to make people feel bad. It's truly sad. Has anyone seen the x-rays? Has anyone talked to this woman, who was his WIFE by the way. Yeah his wife. SO before you go thinking that some poor reporter is writing a slanderous article, find out the facts. The facts that were filed by the PD!

-- Posted by richmama on Tue, Mar 16, 2010, at 9:34 PM

Citizen; I was talking about Collector who said it didn't happen the way it was reported.

-- Posted by Gateway on Tue, Mar 16, 2010, at 6:47 PM

Witness? You need a witness? It's called an X-RAY!

-- Posted by citizen_wayne on Tue, Mar 16, 2010, at 3:59 PM

I was just wondering if there is a witness out there? I would hope if there were they would go to the police.

collector: As others have pointed out, this story, as is the case with most of our stories on reported offenses, was written from the Marshall Police Department's incident report. If you have a gripe about it, please contact them.

On the subject of "making it elsewhere," I've already done that, with many years at my former employer. At my age, I don't have anything left to prove. But thanks for being concerned.

collector,

please note in the story: "According to the incident report" meaning Ms. Fairchild is taking her information from an official incident report, not making this up off the cuff. The incident report is her research. also look at the entire final paragraph that is italicized.

sorry if you know him and if this official report makes him look bad, but keep in mind these are ALLEGED charges, not proven true or false yet.

collector,

Obviously you're not a collector of IQ points. Kathy didn't report on the alleged offense. She reported on what the incident report filed by the MARSHALL POLICE DEPARTMENT says. If you have a beef, take it up with the PD. They issued the statement.

-- Posted by Smokin' Cheetah on Tue, Mar 16, 2010, at 2:28 PM

Kathy Fairchild you need professional help for reporting a slanderous story like this. Lee King is actually innocent, try being a GOOD REPORTER and research your facts a little better next time. No wonder you're just a reporter in Marshall, you don't have what it takes to make it anywhere else.

Response by Eric Crump/Editor:
Readers have already provided adequate defense of Kathy's work, so I'll just underline what they've said: We report charges filed by the prosecuting attorney and provide summaries of the reports filed by law enforcement officers.

That is not what happened at all!
