Donald Ward Newman, 72, of Kansas City, formerly of Nelson, died Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at Lee's Summit Medical Center in Lee's Summit.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010, in Memorial Park Cemetery, Kansas City, with Pastor David Franklin officiating. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 1, at Park Lawn Funeral Home in Kansas City. Born July 3, 1937, in Kansas City, he was the son of the late Joe W. Newman and Louise Treece, who survives of Kearney. He was married to Ginger Newman, who survives of the home. He attended Marshall schools, was a U.S. Air Force veteran and was a member of Grace Community Church. He worked as a welder at Emmert Welding and Manufacturing in Independence.
Additional survivors include four sons, Leslie Dale Hill of the home, Donald Joseph Newman of Raytown, Gregory Nelson Newman of Kansas City and Mark Ritchey Newman of Independence; one daughter, Vicky Lynn Riley of Independence; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
