Coon Hollow Road to close, county officials report

Tuesday, March 2, 2010
At the Saline County Commission meeting Tuesday, March 2, county road and bridge supervisor Justin Cowart announced that Coon Hollow Road will be closed beginning Tuesday afternoon.

The closure is due to work on several culverts on the road, Cowart said, and might be in effect for up to one month, depending on weather conditions. He said signs are posted at state Route AD and Gazebo Avenue to notify drivers of the closure.

And, "They have a detour route," he said.

In other business, commissioners approved a $0.50 raise in the hourly wage of Jessica Adcock, who works in the county assessor's office. This is a routine increase in pay based on the time she has worked in her position, Northern District Commissioner Norvelle "Brownie" Brown said.

Commissioners also approved the appointment of Nina Foster as deputy county assessor, who will fill a position vacated by another's retirement. This appointment will give Foster a $0.20 per hour raise.

Presiding Commissioner Becky Plattner and Southern District Commissioner Richard "Dick" Hassler were also present at the meeting. The commission will meet again Wednesday, March 3, at 9 a.m. in the lower level of the courthouse.

Nancy007 - if you are referrring to the whole renaming and numbering for 911, yes it is. If you look at other counties they kept "CR---" as the road name, not lane or drive or trail or whatever else Saline County now has. And even though the commission says other surrounding counties have the individual signs for each yard, I would like to know where. I have driven all of the surrounding counties, I have found a few houses with them but then the neighbors won't have them, and not all have the number on their mailboxes either - so some counties must have had a volunteer thing happening. I think out signs are an eyesore, I am sure there could have been other options. When I called to say I had moved mine right after they were put up, and gave the justification of why I did it, and emphasized the positives for the EMT's of where I moved it to, I was threatened with the statement that they had the right and approval to prosecute. AND I THOUGHT I WAS BEING A GOOD NEIGHBOR BY REPORTING THE MOVE. Boy, was I surprised! The ironic thing is, they never came and moved the sign, so either they have not followed up on their threat to come "check it out", or they did and determined that I was right afterall !!!

So how did someone get Route 80 out of AD ? Was there an even older route numbering/naming system prior to what I know from post 1981?

Response by Eric Crump/Editor:
I believe the information was spoken. "80" and "AD" can sound identical, depending on the speaker's pronunciation. Simple mistake. It's fixed.

There is no route 80 in Saline County. I have seen many errors such as this since the 911 address changes - when are they going to make public a map with new names and county road numbers like they have had with the old numbers? Or is there one out there and I have just missed it?

With the old county road numbers you could at least narrow down the section of the county by the road numbers - I realize the new numbers do the same and the named roads are alphabetical for the most part - but it is so different that it will take awhile for most of us to get it settled.

Isn't "Coon Hollow Road" the gravel road that leads east out of Grand Pass Wildlife area..passing Teteseau Lake? Aka..Old county road 402.

I never thought I'd be lost in Saline county, Mo.

o.O

You're right. Coon Hollow Road used to be County Road 402.
