Gilbert A. Bergman, 67, of Alma, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, at his home.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 1, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alma, with Rev. Fred Hertwig officiating. Visitation was held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran School or Santa Fe Agri-Leaders in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home. Born Nov. 30, 1942, in Kansas City, he was the son of the late Alvin Bergman and Mildred Pinkepank Bergman. He attended St. Paul Lutheran School and was a 1960 graduate of Concordia High School. On Feb. 15, 1964, he married Mary Jane Wyssman, who survives of the home. He lived in Alma most of his life and was a third generation Lafayette County family farmer, actively involved in all aspects of farming. He worked in the Kansas City area for many years before returning to farm in the Alma and Concordia communities. He was a school bus driver for a number of years in Santa Fe School District. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Santa Fe Agri-Leaders. He was an Alma 4-H tractor maintenance leader for more than 10 years and was currently serving as commissioner of Alma Special Road District, which he was elected to in February of 1980.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Jeffrey Scott Bergman of Alma, Jody Alan Bergman of Alma and Jennifer Leann Bergman of St. Louis; three grandchildren; one sister, Arleen Fiene of Concordia; and several nieces and nephews.
