U.S. Congressman Roy Blunt, R-MO, spoke at the Salt Fork Pachyderm Club's Saline County Lincoln Day Dinner Friday, Feb. 19, during his "Jobs for Missouri's Future" bus tour.

Speaking about proposed cap-and-trade legislation, Blunt said it would approximately double the cost for coal-based utilities.

This would not only affect Missouri's residents, but also its employers, which could lead to some going out of business, he said.

After his remarks to those present at the dinner, which related largely to his campaign for the U.S. Senate seat of retiring senator Kit Bond, R-MO, Blunt spoke outside the assembly hall about his stance on job creation.

"We need private sector jobs. It should be the goal. And the way to do it is to get away from this, all the extreme discussions ... about raising our energy cost, raising our taxes and creating uncertainty about what health care is going to look like in the future. We need to have a certain environment that people know whether they have a chance for those jobs they create to really work and create work and opportunity or not," he said.

Other cities Blunt visited on this tour include Cabool, Carrollton, Dexter, Fredericktown, Jefferson City, Lee's Summit, Liberty, Mansfield, Nixa, Poplar Bluff, Potosi, Richmond, St. Louis, Sedalia, Van Buren, Warrensburg, Willow Springs and Winona.

Blunt's speech at the dinner followed speeches by James Scholz, Bill Stouffer, Vicky Hartzler, Art Madden, Brian Riley and Stanley Cox, who also spoke on behalf of Allen Icet. Missouri Pachyderm Club President Ed Richards was also present.

Scholz, Stouffer, Hartzler, Madden and Riley are running for a seat in Missouri's 4th congressional district. Icet is campaigning for Missouri Auditor.

Interesting how the Republican Party is claiming not to endorse anyone in the MO Senate Race, yet across the state Roy Blunt is invited to be the Keynote Speaker at party events. The Republican Party hasn't learned a thing. We want NEW faces in Washington, not people who have been there taking us down the wrong path for years.

Roy Blunt is exactly why voters have turned their backs on this party. Say one thing, do another. In bed (literally) with the lobbyists. The party would do well to forgo Lincoln Days and hold "candidate forums" instead so the people can know who their options are in the primary elections.
