CONCORDIA -- Wins at Concordia have been both rare and difficult for the Sweet Springs boys' basketball team.

However, the Greyhounds made it look like business as usual Friday with a 64-46 I-70 Conference victory.

Senior Tyler Dohrman hit a pair of three-pointers as Sweet Springs opened with a 19-11 first quarter, then stretched the margin to 20 points by halftime. The Orioles were unable to make a significant dent in the margin during the second half.

Junior Carter Brown buried six bombs for Concordia (8-10, 1-2 I-70), accounting for most of his game-high 20 points.

Dohrman wound up with 18 points and five assists, senior Billy Martin contributed 13 points and senior Nick Peeples logged 12 points and 10 rebounds for the 'Hounds (11-8, 2-2) -- who have won eight of their last nine games.

Sweet Springs will be back home Tuesday to hook up with league foe Windsor.

Santa Fe 64, Crest Ridge 48

CENTERVIEW -- Santa Fe kept alive its challenge to Wellington-Napoleon for I-70 Conference supremacy with Friday's 64-48 win at Crest Ridge.

The Chiefs led by only a point after the first quarter, but then got rolling with 21 points during the second frame. Senior Matt Lovercamp scored seven points during the stanza, sending Santa Fe into the break with a 33-22 lead.

The Cougars (6-12, 2-2 I-70), who were led by junior Alex Everhart's 10 points, were unable to mount a comeback.

Senior Noah Stoll had 17 points and rapidly-improving sophomore center Jeff Kuntz added 16 for the Chiefs (12-6, 4-0) -- who host the undefeated, third-ranked Tigers on Tuesday.

Girls

Sweet Springs 63, Concordia 39

CONCORDIA -- The Sweet Springs girls slugged it out with Concordia for three quarters Friday before staging a 24-3 spree during the final frame for a 63-39 I-70 Conference road win.

The Lady Orioles began the season by winning their first 12 games, but an injury to all-conference senior guard Tori Kopp has had its effect of late. They were down by only three points after three periods, but the Lady Greyhounds rode a 12-point performance down the stretch by senior Rachel Thornton to win going away.

Concordia (14-3, 2-1 I-70) was paced by senior Mandy Latty's 13 points.

Thornton finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds, sophomore Brittany Higgins tallied 17 points and senior Kristin Jones had 16 points and three steals for Sweet Springs (13-6, 3-1).

"We are a senior-laden team and ... we showed why that is important," remarked Lady 'Hounds head coach Boyd Jones. "We were mentally tough as nails in the fourth quarter."

Crest Ridge 59, Santa Fe 38

CENTERVIEW -- Crest Ridge blew out to a 19-4 first quarter lead and never had to look back Friday during a 59-38 I-70 Conference win over Santa Fe.

Freshman Mel Branscum had 11 points for the Lady Cougars (5-13, 1-3 I-70). The Lady Chiefs (3-16, 0-4) have lost 11 of their last 12 games.
