to approve affiliation with Marshall-Saline Development Corporation.
At their meeting Jan. 12, MSDC board members agreed to allow DMA to come under the MSDC umbrella. According to the DMA bylaws, MSDC will serve "as a fiduciary and parent organization."
The organizations will be governed separately, and their funds will be kept separate as well. One of DMA's important gains under the new agreement is its ability to apply for grants using MSDC's 501(c)(3) status.
"I think this is going to be a really successful and helpful direction for this project," Josh King said at the meeting.
Mary Ann Piper of Missouri Valley Community Action Agency agreed and said, "That's a big step."
In other business, those present further discussed the organization's bylaws, choosing to amend the selection process for board members and to stagger their initial terms of office.
The group hopes to take a final vote on the document at its next meeting. DMA is scheduled to meet again Monday, Feb. 22, at 6 p.m. at Marshall Public Library.

Neato, we combined two useless organizations into one. That's what I call progress!
Well put, Scarpetta.
It's a good thing that the DMA can apply for grants, cause they are gonna need money to pour down the rathole that is MSDC.
Doh?!? Wait, that's my tax money they are applying for!
Makes me want to tell another story about a person who bought property on the edge of a town and then created an "Industrial Development Board", funded by the city utilities and local banks, so he could sell said property to the development board at a very, very nice profit.
Wait, that would be clarifying how this organization came to exist in the first place and I don't think anybody wants to talk about that.
Oh, wait, Scarpetta, MSDC did create one full time job in Marshall.
1) Not
2) A
3) Thing
Since it's inception, what specifically, has the MSDC brought to Saline county?
