Who will be on city council election ballots?

Editor's note: This story is part two of a series providing an update on filings for the April municipal elections.

In April, many area municipal governments, school districts and other public bodies will hold elections for members of their ruling boards. The filing period to be a candidate has now closed, and below is a list of the open positions and the people running for them in city governments in the county.

The Arrow Rock Board of Trustees has two two-year terms open in the April election. Currently the positions are filled by Diana Dickey and Karen Murray; Dickey and Karen Berry have filed as candidates.

Blackburn has two two-year terms on the city council up for election in April. In Ward 1, incumbent Charles Dollens will be challenged by Dean Borchers and Charles Meinershagen. Incumbent Florence Wilson is the only person running in Ward 2. Blackburn Mayor Karen Sims is also running unchallenged for another two-year term.

In Gilliam, the board of aldermen has two two-year seats on the April ballot. The positions are currently filled by Joe Trapp and Cody Boston. Trapp, Gerry Ann England and Dan Bothel all filed as candidates.

The two-year terms of Grand Pass City Council members Herb Richtermeyer and Joyce Dambacher are up for election in April, as is the two-year term of Mayor Beverly Richtermeyer. Only the incumbent candidates have filed to be on the ballot.

The Malta Bend Board of Aldermen has two two-year terms to be filled in the April 2010 election. Jack Rash, Ward 1, and Alan Clemens, Ward 2, are currently in the positions. Clemens and Rash have both filed for re-election, and so has Mayor Scott Moore, whose two-year term is also at an end.

In Marshall, the two-year terms of city council members Sheila Cook, Ward 1; Vince Lutterbie, Ward 2; Dan Brandt, Ward 3; and Ron Duvall, Ward 4, will expire in April. All four have filed for re-election, and Steven Rimmer and Charles Thompson have also filed to challenge Duvall in Ward 4.

The Miami City Council has three two-year positions available. They are currently held by Dave Arends, Chris Taylor and Billy Joe Narron. Those who have filed as candidates are Elizabeth Elson, Walter Malan, Narron and Taylor.

In Mount Leonard, there are two two-year city board member positions up for election. The seats are currently filled by Elaine Wagner and Merle Trelow, and both have filed for re-election.

The Nelson Board of Aldermen has one two-year term open for each of two wards. No one from the city government was available for comment on the election filings. For more information, call 660-859-2433.

The two-year terms held by Slater City Council members Cathie Jeffries, Ruby Romine, Harry Lightfoot and Brett Hemeyer are all on the ballot in the April 2010 election, as is the four-year term of Mayor Stephen Allegri. All the incumbents have filed for re-election, and Frank Dolezal has signed up to challenge Hemeyer in Ward 3.

In Sweet Springs, the board of aldermen has two two-year terms up for election. The positions are currently held by Billie Clevenger, Ward 1 and Jim Lindemann, Ward 2. Lindeman has signed up for re-election, and Eric Rader and Tonya Winfrey have filed for the Ward 1 seat. Also in the local government, Mayor Ray Kinney has filed for re-election to his two-year term, as has City Collector Janice Bybee.
