Larry H. Johnson, 71, of Slater, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010 at his home.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater, Father Michael Penn will officiating. Bethany Weiker, organist, played "On Eagles' Wings," "Peace Prayer of St. Francis" and "Largo." Burial was in Washington Cemetery in Glasgow. Pallbearers were Brian Haskamp, Tommy Haskamp, Spencer Haskamp, Jeff Johnson, Dennis Daniels and Robbie Felten. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Johnson and Patrick Johnson. Visitation was Tuesday, Jan. 19, from 6 until 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 6 p.m. and the recitation of the Rosary at 7:45 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Slater Senior Center or the American Lung Association in care of the Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born Nov. 24, 1938, in Glasgow, he was the son of the late Francis and Emma Johanning Johnson. On Aug. 22, 1959, in Glasgow, he married Leanna M. Haskamp, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 15, 2006. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater. He was a member of the board of the Slater Senior Center. He worked as a clerk for hte GM & O Railroad, ICG Railroad and Gateway Western Railroad for 40 years until his retirement in 1998.
He is survived by five daughters, Lisa Taylor and her husband, Kim, of Slater, Lori East and her husband, Rick, of Broken Arrow, Okla., Lynn King and her husband, Ronnie, of rural Marshall, Leslie Patterson and her husband, Todd, of Liberty, and Linda Leimkuehler and her husband, David, of rural Slater; four grandchildren, Andrew Wacker, Christina Wacker, Kurtley Taylor and Miranda Leimkuehler; two step-grandchildren, Jerid King and Katie East; three brothers, Dale Johnson and James Johnson, both of Glasgow, and Kenneth Johnson of Independence; and a sister, Judy Morris of Moskogee, Okla.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny Johnson and Jerry Johnson.
