Doris M. Draffen, 89, of Slater, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Slater Presbyterian Church with Rev. Pam Sebastian officiating. Bethany Weiker, organist, will play "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nathan Boggs, Nolan Boggs, Brett Hemeyer, Brad Hemeyer, Christopher Draffen, Timothy Draffen and Bryan Fox. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Slater High School girls athletic program in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.

Born Oct. 21, 1920, in Slater, she was the daughter of the late Robert R. and Eula Mae Stipes Beadles. On Dec. 24, 1945, in Slater, she married William E. Draffen Sr., who preceded her in death May 7, 1978. She was a member of Slater Presbyterian Church. She worked as head cook at Slater Public Schools cafeteria for 35 years until her retirement.

She is survived by two sons, William E. Draffen Jr. of Slater and Robert Lee Draffen and his wife, Sandra, of Glasgow; five daughters, Betty Fox and her husband, Charles, of Louisville, Ky., Doris Wood and her husband, Donald, of Centralia, Jan Hemeyer and husband, Carl, of Slater, Becky Boggs and husband, Bruce, of Slater, and Joy Draffen of Slater; one daughter-in-law, Laura Draffen, of Columbia; one son-in-law, Waldo Kramm, of Glasgow; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Tom Draffen; one daughter, Susan Kramm; a grandson, Chad Kramm; and two brothers, Lloyd Beadles and Russell Lee Beadles.
