Who has filed to be the April ballot for area school board seats?

In April, many area municipal governments, school districts and other public bodies will hold elections for members of their ruling boards. The filing period to sign up as a candidate in these elections is from Dec. 15 to Jan. 19. Below is a list of the open positions on school boards in the county.

Blackwater School District Board of Education has two positions of three years each on the April ballot. They are currently filled by Mark Danner and Jane Lorenz. To file as a candidate, call 660-846-2461.

In Gilliam, the three-year terms of school board members Sarah Boston and Kevin Cramer are expiring. So far, Boston and Melissa Boston have signed up as candidates. Contact the school at 660-784-2225 to sign up.

There are two seats, of three years each, open on the Hardeman School District board. Doug Borgman and Mike Jewell are currently in those positions. Only Jewell and Dennis Gessling have signed up for the election so far. To file as a candidate, call the school at 660-837-3400.

On the Malta Bend School board, the three-year terms of Susan Jansen and Scott Moore and the two-year term of Casey Klein are on the ballot in the April election. No one has registered as a candidate yet, but those interested can call 660-595-2371.

Marshall School District Board of Education has two three-year terms open in the April election. Currently the seats are filled by Kathy Green and Cindy Brandt. Green is the only person to have signed up as a candidate thus far. To file, call 660-886-7414.

No one has filed to be a candidate yet for the Miami School District Board of Education. The two three-year terms up for re-election are currently held by Kelly Sloan and Tammy Wilson. Those interested in filing should call 660-852-3269.

Orearville School District board has two two-year terms open in the April election. The positions are currently filled by Robbie Thomas and Dick Adkison. No one has yet filed as a candidate, but call 660-529-2481 to do so.

The Santa Fe School District includes parts of Saline County. It has two three-year school board positions on the April ballot. The seats are currently filled by Shane Lane and Randy Sleeper. Merle Dierking and Sleeper have signed up as candidates for the upcoming election. Others interested in being on the ballot can call 660-674-2238.

In Slater, school board members Joey Gochenhour and Larry Skinner are serving the terms that will expire in April. Gochenhour has filed for re-election, and Darla Arni has also filed as a candidate. Contact the school at 660-529-2278 to register as a candidate.

Sweet Springs Board of Education has two three-year terms on the April ballot. Doug Vogelsmeier and Cindy Simms are those in the positions currently, and Vogelsmeier has filed to be a candidate. Those interested in filing should call 660-335-4860.

Any word on whose names will be on the ballot for Marshall School Board?

Upon being elected, new board members are required to attend training sessions hosted by the State of Mo (I think). Lasts a couple of days, if I'm not mistaken...

Just because I am curious, what skills/training/other is needed to run? Are they any requirements?
