Mollie Bell Smith, 74, formerly of Marshall, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at University of Colorado Medical Center, in Aurora, Colo.
Visitation will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m.Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at North Street United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at North Street United Methodist Church. Born July 27, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Samuel L. and Fannie B. Johnson. She lived most of her life in Marshall and graduated from C. C. Hubbard High School in Sedalia. She attended Lincoln University. In April 1956, she married William L. Smith Sr. She worked most of her adult life at Marshall Rehabilitation Center as a teacher's aide and retired from there in 1995. After retiring, Mollie worked in home health. She also helped run Wayland Food Pantry in Marshall. She was a "Grandmother" at Eastwood Elementary School in Marshall before moving to Colorado this past summer. She was a member of North Street United Methodist Church for many years.
She is survived by four children, William Smith of Carrollton, Robert Smith of Marshall, Deborah Collins of Aurora, Colo. and Clarence Smith of Lee's Summit; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three brothers, Samuel L. Johnson Jr. of Sacramento Calif., Thomas F. Johnson of St. Louis and Duain Johnson of Marshall; one sister, Eva Mae Gray of Denver, Colo.; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Pearl Lee Lawson and Mary Catherine Johnson, and one brother, James Kenneth "Brother" Johnson.
