Dorothy M. Barnhill, 86, of Columbia, formerly of Slater, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, at Lenoir Woods Care Center in Columbia.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater. Fr. Michael Penn will officiate. Bethany Weiker, organist, will play "Peace is Flowing," "Like a Shepherd" and "Largo." Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Markovich, Jim Steinmetz, Donnie Dennis, David Cramer, Robert Brucks and Jess Young. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Slater Senior Center in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born Aug. 27, 1923, near Higginsville, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Freda Wagner Witthar. On Dec. 4, 1945, in Kansas City, Kan., she married Walter Scott Barnhill, who preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 1989. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater. She was a graduate of Mercy Academy High School in Marshall. She worked at Town & Country Shoe Company in Slater and retired from Higginsville Habilitation Center.
She is survived by a son, Michael Barnhill of Ashland; a daughter, Brenda Wormsley of Holts Summit; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lillian Kettler of Columbia.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
