Cecil Eugene Sleeper, 85, died on Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at Bothwell Regional Health Center. He was born on Oct. 26, 1924, in Sweet Springs, Missouri, a son of Roy and Gladys (Hunter) Sleeper. Cecil and Kathryn Dillon were married on June 21, 1952.
Cecil was a true rancher. He worked hard all his life, and especially enjoyed working cattle and being outdoors. Cecil hated retirement and kept active with his family. His grandchildren were his true love and he cherished their times together. Cecil was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
Cecil is survived by three sons, Larry Sleeper and wife, Deloris, of Houstonia; Gary Sleeper and wife, Becky, and Junior Sleeper and wife, Susan, all of Sedalia; seven grandsons, Billy Sleeper, Jason Sleeper, Jonathan Sleeper, Joshua Sleeper, Daniel Sleeper, Mike Sleeper and Steven Sleeper; three great-grandchildren, Hannah Sleeper, Jacob Sleeper and Matthew Sleeper; a brother, Vernie Sleeper, of Marshall; and a sister, Katherine Moore, of Marshall.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathryn Sleeper; two sisters, Edna Sleeper and Virginia Dehn, and a brother, Wayne Sleeper.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December. 29, 2009, at Ewing-Schutte-Semler Funeral Home, Sedalia. Rev. Gary Richardson will officiate. Pallbearers will be Cecil's grandsons. Burial will be in Hazel Grove Cemetery, Herndon, Missouri.
The Sleeper family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until service time. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Salem Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
