Shop with a Cop: Police help bring Christmas cheer to local kids

Several families met with Marshall police officers Wednesday evening, Dec. 23, for the department's Shop with a Cop program.

Each child received a gift card for $100, and the heads of each family received a $150 gift card to spend on groceries, said Chief of Police Mike Donnell.

Sponsors of the program include Bloomfield's Family Restaurant, the city of Marshall, Marshall Police Department personnel, Linn Alexander Law Office, Ed McInteer Law Office, Red Cross Pharmacy, McDonald's of Marshall, Wood & Huston Bank, Community Bank, Family Worship Center, Walmart, Viking Cleaners, Public Safety Training Specialists, Central Missouri AGRIservice, Leimkuehler Insurance Services, Charlie's Appliance Sales and Service and Phillip Smith.

MPD personnel who donated their time for the event are Donnell, Lt. Mark Pitts, Lt. Scott Bockstetter, Det. Todd Reeter, Det. Roger Gibson, Det. William McMellen, Ofc. Dusty Brandt, Ofc. Luis Perez, Reserve Officer Mark Gooden and Reserve Officer Karen Chevalier. Sgt Nathan Offield, who was on duty at the time, also accompanied shoppers.

Another great story, warms the heart to see the good in people. The police have what I call a "thankless" job, until the are needed. Wonderful to see the good impact this brings to children.
